Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) told a crowd in Iowa that her Secretary of Education would need to be vetted by a transgender child.
The senator, who once identified as a Native American, made that shocking announcement during a town hall meeting Sunday in Cedar Rapids.
“I’m gonna have a secretary of education that this young trans person interviews on my behalf,” Warren said. “And only if this person believes that our secretary of education nominee is someone who is committed to creating a welcoming environment, a safe environment, and a full educational curriculum for everyone, will that person actually be advanced to be secretary of education.”
Warren was referring to a conversation she had with a nine-year-old transgender kid that she spoke with during a CNN presidential candidate forum on gay and transgender issues last October.
