Now, you would think the most important issue facing the mayor of San Francisco would be public safety.
The Chamber of Commerce recently surveyed voters and only 34 percent said they felt safe in downtown after dark.
Or maybe it would be economic development – as thousands of large and small businesses have fled the city because of crime.
Or maybe it would be the homeless encampments or the drug addicts leaving needles in playgrounds. Conditions that have turned San Francisco into a Third World country.
But according to Democrat Mayor London Breed, the most pressing issue facing the city is the drag queen industry.
During a recent debate Breed challenged Mark Farrell, one of her opponents, to name at least three drag queens in the city. She also demanded to know what her opponents had done for the LGBT community.
“I’d like to ask Mark a question,” Breed began saying. “You were at the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club and couldn’t name any LGBT advisers to your campaign. You were at the debate last week and couldn’t name any drag queens on your own.”
“I was wondering if you could — this is an opportunity to redeem yourself. And if you could name three LGBTQ advisers for your campaign and three drag queens in San Francisco,” Breed continued.
The truth is that unless Mayor Breed’s radical policies are undone, San Francisco won’t be safe for gay or straight people. And that includes the drag queens.
