A London Library is apologizing after it hosted a “Rainbow Dildo Butt Monkey” to help kids read more books.
Redbridge Libraries hosted a Summer Reading Challenge event from the Manding carnival group Saturday, Breitbart reported.
According to the library, the goal of the event was to provide “caregivers [with] fun, family-friendly activities, maintain literacy levels and create a safe space for children to connect with their peers.”
But the reading event was far from family-friendly.
One video shows a man dressed up in a multi-colored monkey costume with a fake penis and buttocks running wildly out of the library.
The perverted performance sparked immediate backlash, forcing the library to issue an apology over the weekend.
“During an event put on at the library today there was a performance by a Carnival Arts Company. Unfortunately one of the animal costumes was inappropriate which we were not aware of at the time of booking. We deeply apologize for the offense caused. This is being looked into,” the library tweeted.
Todd Starnes, the nationally-syndicated radio host, condemned the library’s invitation.
“It seems to me that at least one librarian would have been aware that the performance was not suitable for children,” Starnes said. “Let’s get real – ‘Rainbow Dildo Butt Monkey’ does not exactly scream family friendly.”
