The Garden Theatre in Houston is facing national backlash after they staged a mock assassination of President-Elect Donald Trump.
The theatre was performing “Assassins,” a show that depicts the assassinations and attempted assassinations of presidents through history.
An actor resembling Trump, dressed in a blue suit and wearing a red hat, walks onto the stage. The actors, all armed with guns, fire their weapons. The room turns blood-red and then, the show concludes. Watch below and click here to get my breaking news alerts.
This sort of demented garbage is what passes for entertainment these days.
Logan Vaden, the company’s founding artistic director, defended the production.
“I made the choice in the last 30 seconds of our production to include the assassination attempt of Donald Trump,” he admitted in a Facebook post. “I do not feel the need to go into great detail about the artistic decision that was made, other than it elaborated on the topic of shameful political violence we have always seen.”
If that’s the case, why did the audience cheer when the stage version of Trump was gunned down?
I guess the bloodlust of Vaden and his merry band of gun-toting thespians was not satisfied by the real-life attempts on Trump’s life.
Vaden got especially triggered when critics posted angry messages on social media — and now he’s claiming to be a victim.
He blamed “right-wing social media groups” for sending death threats against the cast and crew.
“All threats against any person involved in our production are being recorded and submitted to the FBI,” he wrote. “These threats are unacceptable and are being treated as true threats.”
The artistic director is absolutely correct. The FBI does need to be notified. And it’s the artistic director who needs to be investigated – along with anyone else in this violent production.
We should not ignore threats from the nation’s thespians. Just remember, it was a professional actor who killed Abraham Lincoln.
