A member of the French government is demanding the United States return the Statue of Liberty because our country does not represent the “values” of Lady Liberty.
Raphaël Glucksmann, a French member of the European Parliament, said at a party convention that America under the Trump administration no longer embodied the spirit of the Statue of Liberty.
Lady Liberty was gifted to the United States in the 1880s to formalize diplomatic ties and enshrine the concept of American independence from Great Britain and the end of slavery.
“We’re going to say to the Americans who have chosen to side with the tyrants, to the Americans who fired researchers for demanding scientific freedom: ‘Give us back the Statue of Liberty,’” Glucksmann said.
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt offered a brilliant takedown of the French:
“It’s only because of the United States of America that the French are not speaking German right now,” she told reporters. “They should be very grateful to our great country.”
America is more than happy to welcome the world’s tired and poor – the huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
But we draw the line at South American gang bangers and Islamic Radicals who want to blow us all to kingdom come. And if that’s a dealbreaker — just send us a FedEx shipping slip and we’ll overnight Lady Liberty.
But fair warning to the French — if the Germans decide to invade — don’t call us to pull your duck fat out of the fire.
