A TV news crew was robbed at gunpoint in Chicago while reporting on armed robberies in the Democrat-controlled city.
Three men wearing ski masks and carrying guns approached a two-man Univision Chicago crew setting up a live shot in Wicker Park around 5 a.m. Monday, according to law enforcement.

The armed robbers demanded money before stealing two bags of equipment, the photographer’s backpack, and the camera used to film the story, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
“Mainly it was personal items, and they took a camera,” Luis Godinez, the vice president of news at Univision Chicago, said. “We don’t want to make the story about us, because there were other robberies that occurred within that same period.”
The planned segment got scrapped and was only mentioned briefly on its 5 p.m. broadcast.

“As a journalist, you never want to be the story, right? You’re reporting on the story but you never think that you can become the story. That’s not why we do this,” the reporter, who wanted to remain anonymous, told Block Club Chicago.
The reporter called it a “total irony” and added, “I guess it’s another reminder of how important it is to keep doing these stories and to keep pressure on our local authorities to try to prevent more events like that.”
This is the second time a reporter was robbed in Chicago this month. An ABC affiliate photographer was assaulted and robbed while covering a press conference on the West Side on Aug. 8.
