The New York Police Department’s RoboDog is back on the streets – despite it getting put back in the pound after critics called it creepy and dystopian a few years ago under former mayor, Bill DeBlasio.
A video of the NYPD’s robotic dog, known as “Digidog” is going viral online. Watch the clip below.
“Digidog is out of the pound,” NYC Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat and former police officer, said. “Digidog is now part of the toolkit that we are using.”
The 70-pound robot is part of a pilot program this summer as the city has said it is overrun with illegal immigrants.

“A few loud people were opposed to it and we took a step back,” Adams said. “That is not how I operate. I operate on looking at what’s best for the city.”
The remote-controlled Digidog will be deployed for situations like hostage standoffs.
“If you have a barricaded suspect, if you have someone that’s inside a building that is armed, instead of sending police in there, you send Digidog in there,” the mayor said. “So these are smart ways of using good technologies.”
