DEVELOPING STORY: A small plane crashed in Philadelphia tonight striking numerous buildings and vehicles. The crash caused a massive explosion. There are reports of multiple casualties.

The plane, a Learjet 55, was going from Philadelphia to Springfield, Missouri, leaving the Northeast Philadelphia Airport when it crashed. The plane crashed into a neighborhood outside the Roosevelt Mall just moments after leaving the airstrip.

Video shows the plane slamming “like a dart” into homes, CNN reports. A number of houses are on fire. The crash happened near the Roosevelt Mall.

“It was just horrific. I was just driving down the street, coming to Wendy’s and I just saw a plane basically hit the building and it exploded. The sky light up and I pulled over and basically it was just real bad around here,” one witness told ABC News. “It lit up the whole sky.”

Police sources told CBS News Philadelphia’s Chief Investigative Reporter Joe Holden that parts of the plane hit cars in the area. Some businesses near the Roosevelt Mall are on fire, sources said.
