A California newspaper investigates Christian churches. Hello Americans, I’m Todd Starnes. Stand by for news and commentary next.
The Tribune – a newspaper owned by McClatchy Group in San Luis Obispo is investigating three churches over a questionnaire that was sent to candidates for city council and school board.
Harvest Church, Grace Bible Church and Calvary Chapel asked candidates their positions on culture war issues like gay rights, abortion and gender identity. They also asked about whether biological boys should participate in girl’s athletics.

Reporter Chloe Shrager insinuated the churches had broken the law. She quoted some political expert who alleged the surveys were indicative of illegal campaign intervention.
“It’s the latest example of nonprofit religious organizations in San Luis Obispo County walking a fine line on what is and is not allowed in terms of political activity,” the leftist reporter wrote. “After investigating two churches in South County for similar activity, The Tribune looked into Calvary Chapel’s questionnaire as a part of its Reality Check series.”
School board candidate Veronica DeCoster told the newspaper that even if the survey is legal she’s not sure it’s ethical.
What’s wrong with Christians asking where a candidate stands on the issues? What’s wrong with voting your values?
Something tells me Candidate DeCoster is a fan of boys on the girls locker rooms.
And Ms. Shrager is the reason why so many Americans distrust and dislike journalists.
