The Ogden Nature Center is where folks in Utah like to go birdwatching. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for kids. But if you are black you can visit the nature center free of charge.
It’s part of a week-long celebration of black birders. Not black birds but black people who might watch black birds or red birds or blue birds.
Now, if you are a white or Asian or Hispanic bird nerd – you have to pay. However, there might be a workaround if you self-identify as a black person.
Still, the idea of dividing bird nerds based on skin color is ruffling lots of feathers.
Senator Mike Lee – the Republican from Utah – blasted the nature center and said their event is not only racist, but illegal.
19 of the 20 staffers are female – the big glasses and purple-haired variety. A lot of dodo birds and cuckoos.
As the say – birds of a feather flock together.
