There is a raging firefight on Capitol Hill. Republicans are deciding on Senate leadership – and the knives are out.
The top three contenders are Sen. John Thune of South Dakota, Sen. John Cornyn of Texas and Sen. Rick Scott of Florida.
Thune and Cornyn come with plenty of anti-Trump baggage. Since 2016 both men have used the mainstream media to voice their displeasure at Trump’s policies and his social media postings.
Thune and Cornyn also have strong ties to outgoing leader Mitch McConnell. Watch Todd’s Newsmax monologue below:
Scott has the backing of most of the America First movement – but he’s got some issues of his own – including his support of red flag laws and defending so-called dreamers. When he was governor of Florida – Scott urged Congress to create a path for the children of illegals.
A list that purported to show how Republican senators planned to vote was released on X over the weekend – and that has caused great angst.
And now lawmakers are being deluged with calls from angry conservatives. And that’s actually a good thing. As it now stands – the most pro-Trump senator in the running is Rick Scott.
Bottom line: The next GOP leaders in the House and Senate must be pro-Trump. They must pledge their allegiance to pushing through the president-elect’s massive agenda. We can’t have a repeat of Paul Ryan and McConnell.
The American people gave President Trump an overwhelming mandate. And we can’t let anyone stand in his way – especially his own political party. This is not cocktail hour at the country club. This is a street fight for the soul of our nation.
