DEVELOPING STORY: A huge crowd swarmed former President Trump at a Miami diner just moments after he was arraigned on a 37-count indictment. The crowd belted out a rendition of “Happy Birthday” to the former President who turns 77 on Wednesday.
He was greeted like a hero when he entered Versailles, a restaurant in Little Havana at the heart of Miami’s Cuban exile community.
“We’re a nation in decline, and then they do this stuff,” Trump said in brief remarks. “You see the crowds and everything else — we have a country that is in decline like never before, and we can’t let it happen.”
CNN’s Jake Tapper was enraged by the scene and ordered producers to stop showing video of the restaurant.
“The folks in the control room, I don’t need to see anymore of that,” Tapper said. “He’s trying to turn it into a spectacle.”
At one point a large crowd gathered around the former president and they prayed for him.
