Democratic Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman did not to speak at an event with President Biden Thursday.

Fetterman greeted the president on the tarmac as he touched down in Pittsburgh but was nowhere to be found during Biden’s infrastructure speech at the Fern Hollow Bridge, which recently collapsed.

Despite the candidate’s absence at the event, Biden praised Fetterman, who is currently in a close Senate race against Dr. Mehmet Oz.
“John, thank you very much for running, I really do appreciate it. And Gisele, you’re going to be a great, great lady in the Senate,” Biden said of Fetterman and his wife.

Critics of Fetterman and the president questioned the candidate’s decision not to speak alongside Biden at the event.
