A number of law enforcement agencies across the state pushed back hard against the governor. Albuquerque police Chief Harold Medina said flat-out that he won’t enforce it.
Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman, who once served as a Democratic party leader and was appointed by Lujan Grisham, on Saturday joined Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller and Police Chief Harold Medina saying they wouldn’t enforce the order.

Thank you, @GovMLG for showing the nation the Democrat Party's nefarious plan. Declare an emergency and suspend constitutional rights. First, she got your guns, New Mexico. How long until she shuts down the churches and free speech and the press?

“As an officer of the court, I cannot and will not enforce something that is clearly unconstitutional,” Bregman told ABQJournal.com. “This office will continue to focus on criminals of any age that use guns in the commission of a crime.”
Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen also weighed in.
“I am wary of placing my deputies in positions that could lead to civil liability conflicts,” he told the newspaper. “As well as the potential risks posed by prohibiting law-abiding citizens from their constitutional right to self-defense.”
Republican state lawmakers Stefani Lord and John Block announced on Saturday they are calling for the governor to be impeached.
“I am calling on counsel to begin the impeachment process against Governor Grisham,” Lord said. “This is an abhorrent attempt at imposing a radical, progressive agenda on an unwilling populous. Rather than addressing crime at its core, Governor Grisham is restricting the rights of law-abiding gun owners. Even Grisham believes this emergency order won’t prohibit criminals from carrying or using weapons; a basic admission that this will only put New Mexicans in danger as they won’t be able to defend themselves from violent crime.”
