Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) is fed up with COVID mandates and regulations.
The Republican lawmaker said in a viral video he tweeted over the weekend, encouraging people to resist.
“They can’t arrest all of us,” Paul said. “They can’t keep all of your kids home from school. … We don’t have to accept the mandates, lockdowns and harmful policies of the petty tyrants and bureaucrats. We can simply say no. Not again.”
Paul pointed to his background as a physician.
“I’m not a career politician,” Paul said. “I practiced medicine for 33 years, I graduated from Duke Medical School, I worked in emergency rooms, I studied immunology, I ultimately chose to become an eye surgeon, (and) I’ve been telling everyone for a year now to Doctor Fauci and other public health bureaucrats were not following science, and I’ve been proven right time and time again.”
Paul also shared a few thoughts on Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) telling legislators they must wear a mask.
“Nancy Pelosi, you will not arrest or stop me or anyone on my staff from doing our jobs,” says Senator Paul. “We have either had COVID, had the vaccine, or been offered the vaccine. We will make our own health choices. We will not show you a passport. We will not wear a mask. We will not be forced into random screenings and testing so that you can continue your drunk with power reign over the capital.”
Even President Biden is mentioned in the video.
“President Biden, we will not accept your agencies’ mandates or your reported moves towards a lockdown,” says Paul. “No one should follow the CDC’s anti-science mask mandates and if you want to shutdown federal agencies again, some of which are not even back to work yet, I will stop every bill coming through the senate with an amendment to cut their funding if they don’t come back to work in person.”
Some individuals and politicians are pushing masks as a way of combating the spread of COVID-19, citing new variants. Still, Paul says “children at not an anymore risk from COVID than they are from the seasonal flu.”
“Every adult who works in schools has either had the vaccine or had their chance to get vaccinated,” says Paul. “There is no reason for mask mandates, part-time schools, or any lockdown measures.”
Paul says he is not the only member of Congress speaking out or refusing to comply. He also credits private citizens.
“I see stories from across the country of parents standing up to the unions and school boards,” says Paul. “I see brave moms standing up and saying ‘My kids need to go back to school, in-person.’”
Earlier this summer, Paul asked the U.S. Department of Justice for a criminal referral after accusing Dr. Anthony Fauci of lying to Congress about gain-of-function research involving COVID-19. Fauci – who in May admitted to National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding of the Wuhan Institute of Virology – denies gain-of-function. Fauci has accused Paul of lying.
