The House Select Jan. 6 Committee issued a subpoena to former President Trump Friday.
The New York Times reports the court battle ahead could lead to the Supreme Court as the Democrat-led panel accuses Trump of being the “central cause” of an effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

The letter sent to Trump’s lawyers demands the former president testify to the nine-member panel under oath by Nov. 14.
The committee is also requesting a series of documents by Nov. 4, including personal communications between Trump and lawmakers, as well as conservative groups.
“We recognize that a subpoena to a former President is a significant and historic action,” Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and Vice Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY) wrote in the letter to Trump. “We do not take this action lightly.”
Last week Trump sent a 14-page letter to the committee titled, “PEACEFULLY AND PATRIOTICALLY.”
This is a developing story.
