Spring Breakers have turned Miami Beach into a war zone.
Video shows hundreds of spring breakers jumping on cars and shutting down roadways. At least two people have been gunned down. One man was executed in the middle of a busy thoroughfare.
Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber has declared a state of emergency and declared a curfew. It’s the third year in a row that spring breakers have terrorized local residents.
“As I have said many times, we don’t ask for spring break in our city. We don’t want spring break in our city. It’s too rowdy, brings too much disorder, and is simply too difficult to police,” the mayor told the Miami Herald. “While most come here to enjoy the amenities of Miami Beach … the few that come with bad intentions and the presence of guns creates a wholly intolerable situation. Notwithstanding an enormous deployment of police, at times it remains a tinder.”
But the curfew is unlikely to work.
Over the past two years the city ordered police to crack down — which led to accusations of racism. The NAACP called on the police chief to resign over allegations officers roughed up spring breakers.
Elsewhere, spring breakers are being warned to stay away from Mexico. Violent crime and cartel kidnappings among the reasons why.
But all things considered, kids might be safer in Mexico than they would be in Miami Beach.
