An Indiana sheriff has been ordered to remove a cross from his patrol car.

A “concerned citizen” got triggered after seeing the cross decal on the rear windshield of a Hancock County Sheriff’s patrol car.

“The cross unabashedly signals official government support for Christianity,” Freedom From Religion Foundation gadfly Hirsh M. Joshi wrote to Sheriff Brad Burkhart. “We hope you agree that law enforcement must be even-handed and avoid any appearance of bias toward some citizens, and hostility toward others.”

The sheriff’s department immediately removed the cross and provided photographic evidence to the atheist group.

FFRF said they were pleased by the prompt compliance of Sheriff Burkhart.

“Citizens need to be able to trust their law enforcement officers in times of need, and there’s nothing that can shatter that trust faster than the intrusion of religion into governmental affairs,” said FFRF’s Annie Laurie Gaylor. “Law enforcers, who carry guns and have the ability to arrest citizens, have a professional obligation to separate their personal religious views from their governmental duties and we’re glad to see that happen here.”

There’s just one problem: it’s not illegal for a police officer or a deputy sheriff to display a Christian message or cross on their patrol cars. Don’t be bullied by atheists, America. Click here to read my book on how to stop the Marxists from taking over America.
