Military Officer Removed From Command Over Opposition to Transgenderism, School Drag Shows

An officer in the Idaho Army National Guard was removed from command and pressured to resign after a gay subordinante objected to his views on transgenderism and whether children should have access to pornographic books.

Liberty Counsel, a well-known religious liberty law firm, is represented in the unnamed military officer. They say the man’s First Amendment rights were violated. They also allege the National Guard violated the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and the Idaho state constitution.

Founder Mat Staver called on Gov. Brad Little to intervene and restore the officer’s career or else face a federal lawsuit.

“Governor Brad Little must ensure that the Idaho Army National Guard uphold federal and state law and protect the free speech of enlisted personnel,” Staver said. “This discrimination against an officer based on a frivolous complaint must be addressed and his record cleared and career restored.”

Last year a senior enlisted gay man filed a discrimination complaint against the officer. The enlisted man complained that he became offended after he read postings on the officer’s private social media platform.

The officer wrote that he was opposed to graphic, obscene children’s books in a library as well as the promotion of “drag kids” events and drag queen performances in taxpayer-funded schools.

Should Christian military officers be allowed to share their religious beliefs on social media?

The officer also posted statements such as “no child is born in the wrong body,” males should not be competing in female sports, and against the medical mutilation of gender-confused children.

The gay enlisted man became enraged and filed a formal complaint saying that the officer’s postings were examples of “just how much [the officer] truly hates the LGBTQ community.”

“I feel like I have been discriminated against because of my sexual orientation and that is [sic] has caused a hostile work environment. The purpose of this complaint is to bring to your attention several instances in which I believe I have faced discriminatory treatment based on my sexual orientation,” the man wrote in his complaint to military leadership. “I am deeply concerned about the hostile and prejudiced behavior I have experienced, which has adversely affected my well-being, work performance, and overall sense of belonging within the workplace/organization.”

The enlisted man went on to say that the officer’s deeply held religious beliefs created an uncomfortable, unsafe and hostile work environment.

The Idaho Army National Guard removed the officer from command and then illegally pressured him to resign without benefit of any counsel or notice. He rescinded his notice two hours later after contacting Liberty Counsel.
