Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:3-4 NKJV
Three-year- old niece Rachel asked her daddy if she could go up on the roof with him and walk around. Thinking he could appease her, he told her she would have to wait until she was seven.
He figured no child would remember a promise that long, and no more mention was made of it…
Fast forward four years.
Rachel turned seven while her daddy was in Iraq with the military. When he came home on leave, Rachel ran to greet him at the airport. After the first “Hellos” were completed, she tugged on his arm and said, “Daddy, I turned seven while you were away. We need to get home so we can go walk on the roof!” True to his word, soon they were stomping away up on the rooftop!
Many families enjoy being reunited with their loved ones returning from Iraq, but this was truly a rooftop experience!
Have you asked your Heavenly Father for your own rooftop experience? Perhaps He asked you to wait. Maybe He even hoped you would forget about it. But if it is on your heart of hearts, you can be assured it is also on the heart of God. All Rachel had to do was ask, then wait, then ask again. Maybe we don’t get our rooftop experiences because we aren’t good at asking, or at waiting. But it can happen! And one rooftop experience in a lifetime is never enough.
Father, the view from the rooftop is glorious. I want to meet You there.
