NFL Rookie Shot in Downtown San Francisco Robbery

UPDATE: The San Francisco Police Dept. says Ricky Pearsall was shot through the chest in a robbery attempt over a Rolex. Pearsall had been on his way to a signing event on Geary and Market Street. There was reportedly a struggle for the gun. Pearsall is in stable condition at San Francisco General Hospital.

“This kind of violence has no place in our city and will never be tolerated. My heart goes out to Mr. Pearsall and his family and I wish him a speedy recovery, Police Chief William Scott said in a statement. “Thankfully, our hard-working officers made a swift arrest in this case and we will do everything within our power to ensure justice is served.”

DEVELOPING STORY: The number one draft pick for the San Francisco 49er’s was shot during a robbery in downtown San Francisco.

NBC News reports Ricky Pearsall was shot in Union Square. He is reportedly in stable condition and his attacker is in custody. The 23-year-old is just one week away from his NFL debut.

Television station KTVU reports that the robber demanded that Pearsall relinquish his Rolex watch. There are unconfirmed reports that Pearsall was in the area for an autograph signing session.

Mayor London Breed, an anti-police Democrat, posted the following message on X:

This afternoon, there was an attempted robbery in Union Square involving San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and he was shot. SFPD was on scene immediately and an arrest of the shooter was made. My thoughts are with Ricky and his family at this time. We will provide more updates, including on his condition, as I receive them.

Union Square used to be one of the most exclusive shopping districts in San Francisco until Democrat policies turned the area into a war zone.

“Our city has suffered from a tragic series of gun shootings: a Galileo high student shot while Breed partied in Chicago, a young girl in Crocker-Amazon with life-threatening wounds, and now 49ers first round draft pick Ricky Pearsall struck with gunfire during an attempted robbery in Union Square,” former interim Mayor Mark Farrell wrote on X. “Enough is enough. If we want public safety in San Francisco, then we need change in City Hall.”
