Former President Donald Trump says he knows the identity of the police officer who killed Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt during the U.S. Capitol riot on January 6.
“I spoke to the wonderful mother and devoted husband of Ashli Babbitt, who was murdered at the hands of someone who should never have pulled the trigger of his gun. We know who he is,” the former president said in a statement.

Babbitt, a California woman who participated in the U.S. Capitol riot on Jan.6, was “ambushed” by the Capitol Police officer who fatally shot her as she tried to enter the Speaker’s Lobby outside the House Chamber, a lawyer for the family said.

“It’s not debatable. There was no warning,” attorney Terry Roberts alleged. “I would call what he did an ambush. I don’t think he’s a good officer. I think he’s reckless.”
The family plans to file a $10 million wrongful death lawsuit against the Capitol Police and the officer, the Washington Examiner reported.

The Justice Department cleared the unnamed Capitol police officer of any charges connected to the shooting.
“In order to establish a violation of this statute, prosecutors must prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the officer acted willfully to deprive Ms. Babbitt of a right protected by the Constitution or other law,” the DOJ said. “Prosecutors would have to prove not only that the officer used force that was constitutionally unreasonable, but that the officer did so ‘willfully,’ which the Supreme Court has interpreted to mean that the officer acted with a bad purpose to disregard the law.”
However, it’s extremely peculiar that the police officer’s identity has not been released, the former president said.
“If that happened to the ‘other side,’ there would be riots all over America and yet, there are far more people represented by Ashli, who truly loved America, than there are on the other side,” the president said. “The Radical Left haters cannot be allowed to get away with this. There must be justice!”
