The New Mexico Republican Party headquarters was firebombed early Sunday morning. Party leaders say the building was destroyed.
The attackers also spray painted the words “ICE=KKK” on the outside of the building.
“This horrific attack, fueled by hatred and intolerance, is a direct assault on our values, freedoms, and our right to political expression,” the state GOP wrote in a statement.
“Those who resort to violence to undermine our state and nation must be held accountable, and our state leaders must reinforce through decisive action that these cowardly attacks will not be tolerated,” New Mexico chairwoman Amy Barela. “It is part of a disturbing pattern of politically motivated violence that has plagued our country—fueled in part by the silence and implicit encouragement from progressive leaders who refuse to condemn these acts.”
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, a Democrat, released a statement condemning the attack.
“There is no excuse for political violence or vandalism of any kind, and I strongly condemn Sunday’s attack on the New Mexico Republican Party headquarters in Albuquerque. I am relieved that no one was hurt, and New Mexicans can rest assured that State Police and the Fire Marshal’s Office will assist the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms as needed during the investigation.”
Police have yet to make any arrests, but make no mistake. The Democrats are to blame for the violence. All the rhetoric, the accusations of Nazism, the attacks on Tesla drivers. They bear full responsibility.
This is not an isolated incident. It is part of a disturbing pattern of politically motivated violence that has plagued our country—fueled in part by the silence and implicit encouragement from progressive leaders who refuse to condemn these acts. Their failure to stand against political violence has created an environment where attacks like this are not only possible but increasingly frequent, the local Republicans said.
