The massive Christmas tree outside Fox News Channel’s New York City headquarters was set on fire shortly after midnight, “Fox News @ Night” host Shannon Bream announced to viewers.
Fox News security spotted someone climbing the 50-foot-tall All-American Christmas tree located just in Fox Square.
The NYPD arrested Craig Tamanaha, 49, early Wednesday morning who was caught running from the scene as FDNY firefighters put out the blaze. Tamanaha is reportedly homeless and has had three prior arrests: two for drug possession and one for public intoxication.
The scene is just outside of News Corporation, which also houses the Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, and other businesses.
Fox said the red, white and blue-themed tree took 21 hours to assemble with 10,000 glass ornaments and 100,000 lights.
FOX News Media CEO Suzanne Scott told employees Wednesday that the tree will be rebuilt as “a message that there can be peace, light and joy even during a dark moment.”
No one was reportedly injured.
