The Federal Emergency Management Agency admitted that one of their staffers ordered relief workers to ignore hurricane-damaged homes in Florida that had Trump signs. The staffer has since been fired.
Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) is demanding that heads roll.
“I am so angry,” the congresswoman wrote on X. “We suspected this but now have the proof. So many of my constituents have lost everything. The fact that this admin was willing to literally play politics with people’s lives, is beyond shameful.”
The Daily Wire exclusively reported the story after a whistleblower came forward with evidence that disaster relief was provided based on political party affiliation. At least 20 homes were passed over.
“I know they’re short-staffed, I thought we could go help and make a difference,” one of the relief workers told Daily Wire. “When we got there we were told to discriminate against people. It’s almost unbelievable to think that somebody in the federal government would think that’s okay.”
“I volunteered to help disaster victims, not discriminate against them,” the employee said. “It didn’t matter if people were black, white, Hispanic, for Trump, for Harris. Everyone deserves the same amount of help.”
FEMA issued a statement to Daily Wire confirming the story. Click here to get my breaking news alerts.
“FEMA helps all survivors regardless of their political preference or affiliation and we are deeply disturbed by this employee’s actions,” the statement read. “While we believe this is an isolated incident, we have taken measures to remove the employee from their role and are investigating the matter to prevent this from happening ever again. The employee who issued this guidance had no authority and was given no direction to tell teams to avoid these homes and we are reaching out to the people who may have not been reached as a result of this incident.”
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has already ordered his state to investigate FEMA’s discrimination against Trump supporters.
“The blatant weaponization of government by partisan activists in the federal bureaucracy is yet another reason why the Biden-Harris administration is in its final days,” DeSantis said. “At my direction, the Division of Emergency Management is launching an investigation into the federal government’s targeted discrimination of Floridians who support Donald Trump. New leadership is on the way to D.C., and I’m optimistic that these partisan bureaucrats will be fired.”
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) called for an immediate congressional investigation, calling FEMA’s behavior “unconscionable discrimination.”
Cammack said anyone involved and anyone who refused to help storm survivors should be immediately fired.
She’s also calling for:
- An expedited review and approval of all applications that were denied. (We literally had inspectors tell families that because their home was washed away, there was nothing to inspect and therefore nothing to approve. They were denied any assistance.)
- An immediate block grant of all disaster resources to the respective states to administer recovery and aid rather than federal agencies such as SBA or USDA.
FEMA said in a statement to Fox News that “we are horrified that this took place and therefore have taken extreme actions to correct this situation and have ensured that the matter was addressed at all levels.”
