Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA) said his home was vandalized by pro-Hamas sympathizers. Red spray paint was used to write a message on the congressman’s garage door.
U.S. Capitol Police are working with police in Bellevue, Washington as they investigate the incident.
“Last night, my house was vandalized by people advocating for a ceasefire in Israel and Gaza. This attack is sadly reflective of the coarsening of the political discourse in our country, and is completely unwarranted, unnecessary, and harmful to our political system,” Smith said in a statement.
“Throughout the course of my career, my staff and I have continually met with groups from all parts of the political spectrum, including Pro-Palestinian and left-wing activists, and I remain open to meeting with these groups and discussing our differences and where we can come together in a productive and peaceful way. We must engage with politics in this way and reject the rise in political violence that we have witnessed over the past several years,” he added.

The Democrat then went on to call out what he called both sides of the political spectrum.
“The extremism on both the left and right side of our political spectrum is a threat to a healthy, functioning democracy and has been condoned for far too long. The simple truth is that extremism on both sides is degrading to our political system and must be rooted out for our democracy to be able to persist,” he said.
But the truth is that only one side of the political spectrum is engaged in violent, criminal behavior — and that would be those sympathetic to Democrat causes.
Three other members of Congress have also been victims of vandalism including Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) and Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM).
“Harassing, intimidating, and outright attacking the staff of a Jewish elected official at a time of rising violence and rampant antisemitism is dangerous and unacceptable,” Goldman spokesperson Simone Kanter said in a statement to Axios.
Someone spray painted, “Israel Kills Jews Too” on the district office of Rep. Monica De La Cruz (R-TX).
We stand together to condemn the vandalism discovered this morning targeting Representative Dan Goldman’s district office,” more than a dozen House Democrats from New York said in a joint statement.
My condolences to Congressman Smith and his family as they suffer the same kind of hostility that many conservative families have dealt with over the years. Those responsible should face the fullest penalty under the law.
