DEVELOPING STORY: At least 10 people were killed Saturday when a white gunman opened fire inside a crowded supermarket in a predominantly black neighborhood in Buffalo, New York.
NBC News reports a man wearing military-style gear entered a Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue shortly after 2:30 p.m. and began firing a rifle, according to law enforcement.
“It’s like walking onto a horror movie, but everything is real. It is Armageddon-like,” a police officer told Buffalo News. “It is so overwhelming.”
One of the deceased was a recently retired Buffalo police officer who was working security at the store, the newspaper reported.

The bodies of at least five people were found in the supermarket’s parking lot.
Eyewitnesses say the gunman was a white man dressed in full body armor and was wearing a military-style helmet.
Shonnell Harris, an operation manager at the Tops, told the Buffalo News she heard gun shots and ran frantically through the store, falling several times before exiting out the back.
“He looked like he was in the Army,” she said.
Police say the suspect is an 18-year-old white man who reportedly broadcast the entire shooting on social media. They say the attack is being treated as a racially-motivated hate crime.
