Five people are dead after a series of shootings Monday night at a Whole Foods, Hyatt Hotel and a Thai restaurant in Denver and Lakewood. Three other people, including a police officer were injured, television station KDVR reports.
Lakewood police said two people are dead in their community, one being the suspected shooter. Another person is injured. Police are searching the area near Target in Belmar for possible additional suspects.
“We have every reason to believe that several instances in Denver are connected, that happened before our incidents here in Lakewood,” said John Romero, spokesman for Lakewood Police.
Witnesses tell FOX31 they heard several rounds of gunfire near a shopping center on Wadsworth Boulevard.
Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen said there were a total of four shooting scenes in the the city of Denver:
- East First Avenue and North Broadway. Three people were shot. Two women were killed and a man was injured.
- 12th Avenue and North Williams Street. One man was shot and killed.
- 6th and Cherokee. There were no injuries reported in this shooting.
- 8th and Zuni. Denver Police attempted to pull over the suspect following a chase. There was an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and officer. And DPD police vehicle was disabled but there were no other injuries.
CBS Denver reports the suspect went inside the Hyatt House Hotel on Alaska Drive. The suspect allegedly shot the hotel clerk, and that victim was taken to the hospital. Police don’t have information about that victim.
