An Oklahoma school district is embroiled in a controversy over the American flag that started when administrators ordered a student to remove Old Glory from his pickup truck. But the situation has escalated.
Video filmed inside Edmond North High School shows a teacher physically confiscating American flags from a student. The student said he was being sent to the office to be punished.
Earlier in the day hundreds of students, parents and residents turned out to protest the school’s decision to ban all flags on campus — including the American flag. Watch the video below and click here to follow my Rumble television channel.
State School Supt. Ryan Walters told me last week that he had already launched an investigation into the woke school district.
“We have seen parents across the state who are so tired of people, young people, being told to hate their country or not be proud of their country,” Walters told News 9 in Oklahoma. “We want our young people to be proud of our country. Sounds like a lot of patriotic students at the school, and we want to encourage them to show love for the country.”
Four state lawmakers urged the district to reconsider the flag ban, according to the Daily Oklahoman.
In the letter, signed by Republican lawmakers Sen. Adam Pugh and Representatives Preston Stinson, Mike Osburn and Erick Harris, the lawmakers said they were writing to “express our support for the display of the American flag on public school property and to address the recent controversy involving a student who displayed the American flag on his truck.”
“The American flag is a powerful symbol of our nation’s history, values, and the freedoms we cherish. It represents unity, sacrifice, and the shared ideals that bind us together as Americans. Displaying the flag, especially within educational settings, fosters a sense of patriotism and respect for the principles upon which our country was founded,” the lawmakers wrote. “In the case of the student who chose to display the American flag on his truck, it is important to recognize his actions as an expression of patriotism and personal belief. The rights of individuals, including the freedom to express oneself and the right to display symbols on personal property, are fundamental to our democracy. This is especially true when such expressions are respectful and in alignment with the values of our nation.”
The school district says the flag ban is not about patriotism. They allege it’s about public safety.
