A third grade teacher in New Augusta, Mississippi has run afoul of atheists.

The teacher at South Perry Elementary School has been accused of playing Christian music in her classroom.

And we all know that MercyMe and Michael W. Smith are prone to trigger the godless heathen crowd.

The teacher also stands accused of forcing children to participate in prayers before the lunch hour.

I find that allegation hard to believe – but let’s get real. It’s always a good idea to say a prayer before eating lunchroom mystery meat.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation fired off a letter to the school district – tattling on the teacher.

“Forcing children to pray is deeply disturbing,” FFRF Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor says. “Our public schools exist to educate, not indoctrinate in religion.”

They demanded an immediate investigation and ordered the teacher to refrain from promoting her personal religious beliefs.

“Students have the First Amendment right to be free from religious indoctrination in their public schools,” FFRF Anne Nicol Gaylor Legal Fellow Sammi Lawrence wrote to Superintendent Titus M. Hines.

The horrified school district responded with an immediate apology and they threw the teacher under the school bus.

“In response, I have notified the building administrator of this concern, and she has addressed this with the teacher and her entire staff,” Hines wrote back. “In addition, all building administrators at all other schools in the district have been instructed to be mindful of such acts and how it is inappropriate for the school setting.”

The district also promised that the teacher would never play Christian music in her classroom and she would never say grace over her meal.

Good luck eating the mystery meat.

Should teachers be allowed to play Christian music in their classrooms?
