The Trump Administration is playing hardball with Ivy League schools that refuse to crack down on anti-Semitism.
The latest is Brown University. The White House pulling the plug on more than $500 million in grants.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon says any school that receives taxpayer money has a responsibility to protect all students from discrimination. Instead, school administrators have turned a blind eye as Jewish students have been assaulted and harassed.
“Americans have watched in horror for more than a year now, as Jewish students have been assaulted and harassed on elite university campuses – repeatedly overrun by antisemitic students and agitators. Unlawful encampments and demonstrations have completely paralyzed day-to-day campus operations, depriving Jewish students of learning opportunities to which they are entitled,” McMahon said in a statement last month.
At least five Ivy League schools have had their funding suspended over anti-Semitism and diversity, equity and inclusion programs.
In the statement to The New York Times, Brown President Christina H. Paxson said that some of Trump’s demands “raise new and previously unthinkable questions about the future of academic freedom and self-governance.” She said that if Brown’s essential academic and operational functions were threatened, the university “would be compelled to vigorously exercise our legal rights to defend these freedoms.”
The question Brown University and other Ivy League schools must consider is very simple: do they value being a safe space for Jew haters or do they want a welfare check from the federal government?
But there’s a broader issue that needs to be addressed.

Last year Ivy League schools received $6.4 billion in federal funding. That’s an obscene amount of money. These are very wealthy, powerful private universities and colleges.
Jay Greene, a senior research fellow at the Heritage Foundation, published a deep-dive into the scandalous world of government-funded research grants that favor the Ivy League schools over public universities.
“The federal government provides enormous subsidies to the wealthiest universities in the country. “During fiscal year 2022, Ivy League universities received $1.8 billion for overhead on government-funded research grants,” Greene wrote. “That represents 84 percent of the total amount of government subsidy those universities received.”
“For every dollar Ivy League universities receive for research, they charge the government an additional 64 cents, on average, for overhead. This funding is clearly a subsidy, because it is almost entirely fungible and unaccountable,” he added. “The government can curtail nonsense, save taxpayers money, and reallocate research subsidies more evenly throughout the country by eliminating and capping research overhead funding for the wealthiest universities.”
President Trump should forego investigations and immediately cut off all federal funding to the Ivy Leagues.
There’s no reason why the hard-working American taxpayers should subsidize some of the wealthiest universities in the nation.
And thanks to the woke world of academia the Ivy Leagues have been transformed into the Poison Ivy Leagues.
