Cornell University is hosting a new workshop on pole dancing for transgender and plus-sized students.
The university’s pole dancing club says they’re all about breaking down barriers. The “Pole Posse,” an officially recognized campus club, is all about diversity, equity and inclusion on the stripper pole.
“We do not tolerate body shaming, ability shaming, or gender discrimination,” it states on Instagram. Shaving is also not required, “body hair is fine,” the group states.
Just imagine Chris Christie in a unitard attempting to mount a pole. That’s what passes for entertainment at Cornell University – paid for by student fees.
“People think pole is [for] a very narrow group of people. A lot of people assume that men can’t do pole [or that] it’s a woman-only sport. No, that’s not true,” the group’s social chair told the Cornell Sun.
“We do a lot of these different kinds of events in the hope of being able to expand and show people that pole is not just this one thing. Anyone can do pole, and anyone can enjoy pole.”
Cornell is believed to be the first Ivy League school to teach students how to pole dance. Watch my commentary below:
I thought one of the main reasons parents send their kids to college is to make sure they don’t have to earn a ling twirling around a pole in their birthday suit? A serious note, though. Provisions should be made to protect the super-sized pole dancers. Cornell might even consider reinforcing their stainless steel poles with say – telephone poles?
